Looking at the chemise, an intimate under-shirt I explore its significant evolution. How a piece of lingerie has drastically changed throughout history reflecting societal norms, changing perceptions of the human body and constantly changing trends of body ideals. Looking at its origins as a practical undergarment to its modern embodiment as a symbol of femininity and sensuality, the corset has played a crucial role in shaping and conforming to body standards. I explore the development and transformation of the chemise to a structured and aesthetic garment. Focusing on the influence of beauty standards, particularly the Idealization of the small waists through wired corsets, and the ever-changing trends in body ideals. I will explore volume and constraint by de-constructing the corset and incorporating the structure and lacing of the corset to the loose and lightness of the chemise.
