My project delves into the evolution of sports wear, looking at how normal daily wear would be worn for sport activities in the 19th century. At that time sporting activities had only just begun and clothing specific to physical activity had not yet developed. I look closely to the 1960s aesthetic of daily wear, with a focus on the monochrome colour platte of bold colors and A-line silhouettes of mini dresses as well as the popular cape style coat. Additionally I combine the daily wear of the 60s with the 60s ski wear, with a focus on the complex quilting found in various patterns and ski hardware such as snaps, zippers and pockets. I want to combine the functional elements of skiwear such as the hardware and construction which make the garment fitted for sports with the aesthetic elements of the daily wear, from its silhouette to its aesthetic and colour. Using the technical fabric found in the construction of athletic wear, I juxtapose the shiny waterproof fabric with the use of wool found in coats of that time.
