My collection explores the intersections of multicultural identity, heritage, and belonging through the shared and symbolic practice of fishing. It is rooted in the dialogue between my two heritages Denmark and Palestine, this project is a personal study of how culture, craft, and clothing can reveal unexpected connections between distinct geographies. Shaped by the personal experience of growing up in a third country, distanced from both, I have often experienced a sense of distance from both my roots. This project emerges as a process of reconnection, an attempt to understand where I come from by studying and reinterpreting the visual, material, and symbolic languages of these two vastly different yet unexpectedly intertwined cultures. I look to see what happens when we view identity not as a fixed inheritance. This collection is therefore a way of reconnecting and a way of learning about my histories not through narrative alone, but through garments that embody the languages, climates, and gestures of both cultures. Fishing functions as the conceptual and visual thread of the collection. It is a practice that surpasses borders and politics, rooted in community, endurance, and an intimate relationship with nature. I became fascinated by how this practice with the sea, exists in both of my cultures, yet takes on very different material expressions.
